  • Duration

    8 classes (60 mins / class)

  • Size

    8 students / class

Using a fun and interactive method to engage young children to learn and master phonics. In this course, students will master the 44 sounds (phonemes) in the English Language. They will learn the letter sounds which involve thinking about what a sound a word starts with, saying the sound out loud and then recognizing how the sound it representing by a letter. In this course of mastering phonics level 1: decoding, the aim is for students to be able to see a letter and then say the sound it represents out loud. Once students are able to say out the individual sounds of each letter, they can proceed to the next level and will be able to learn to blend the sounds and say the whole word. Words are made up from small units of sounds called phonemics. Early phonics knowledge is the key to starting to decode written words. To read English successfully, students must learn to turn the words they see in a text into sounds, and make sense of these sounds. Hence, as a start – it is important for them to learn the letter-sounds relationships because English uses letters in the alphabet to represent sounds. Therefore, it is important to introduce children to phonics from the ages of 3 to 4 years old, as it set up a firm foundation for children to become successful readers and spellers/writers. Learning phonics is the most effective way to teach children how to read.
