IB MYP 4-5 Standard Mathematics (Functions)

  • Type

    Ongoing class

  • Duration

    10 classes (90 mins / class)

  • Size

    8 students / class

The broad topic of this course is Functions. Models are depictions of real-life events using expressions, equations or graphs while a function is defined as a relation or expression involving one or more variables. Creating different representations of functions to model the relationships between variables, visually and symbolically as graphs, equations and tables represent different ways to communicate mathematical ideas. The whole course will be aligned to prepare students for MYP e-assessment for this particular vast topic and the course will cater to all the 4 criterions A, B, C and D.
THIS COURSE WILL COVER:
  • Mappings
  • Function notation
  • Linear functions
  • y = mx + c
  • Parallel and perpendicular lines
  • Quadratic functions
  • Domain and range
  • Algorithms
  • Representation and shape of exponential functions.
YOU CAN EXPECT YOUR CHILD TO:
  1. Student will be able to confidently attempt questions on functions in MYP e-assessment.
  2. Criterion B- Investigating patterns in e-assessment is mostly based on either linear or quadratic function which is going to be catered here in detail so students will be able to achieve the highest grade in criterion B.
  3. Understanding of models will be catered using real-life contexts so that students are prepared to apply their mathematical skills in real-life situations.
  4. Students will feel confident and comfortable while moving ahead to DP as the advanced level of Functions is going to be catered in DP so having a good hold on this topic is necessary for MYP students.
