My name is Mary Vanessa Nartia, I am a science educator, chemist, and an environmentalist.
I’ve been teaching for eight years now. I have taught pre-college chemistry, earth science, physics, life science, and scientific research during my first seven years to senior high school students at De La Salle University in the Philippines. Currently, I am a lower secondary and upper secondary chemistry teacher in an international school in Bangkok, Thailand. I have trained students who garnered awards to different national and international competitions in chemistry, general science, math, and research throughout my teaching years. Ninety-five percent of my former students gained the highest possible mark on their college chemistry classes. At the same time, most of them are already successful engineers, ITs, scientists, and managers in the Philippines and other countries.
My teaching techniques to make chemistry simple and understandable are: For knowledge concepts, I relate it to real life examples where students can appreciate the value of the lesson. For process and skills topics that involve calculations, I make sure to teach the step by step approach of solving problems, with guided and self-paced practice exercises afterwards. For understanding concepts, I make sure to maximize technology by using web based simulations, experiments, and 3D representations.
I enjoy teaching because it allows me to impart my knowledge and expertise to those in need. It also helps me to visualize a better future through my students.
Even Though I am highly logical, I am also artistic. I love traveling to take photos, I love to paint, and I am also into digital arts. |
