Julian Yon has created his own English course for pre-intermediate level students. The course is designed around familiar topics and focused on the skills needed to communicate effectively in English through listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course focuses on vocabulary, grammar and functional language. The materials contain realistic everyday situations to bring learning to life. This course will provide students with the confidence to communicate in English in a variety of different settings. It will allow them to cope with everyday recurring communication situations requiring direct and easy information exchange on familiar routine topics.
Course will cover:
  • A full range of topic areas relevant to the student's life (health, people, home, daily routines, weather, personality, feelings, clothing, shopping, daily and free-time activities, transport and travel, food) Usage of how much/many style questions.
  • Asking for and giving directions
  • Making comparisons
  • Making requests (e.g., at a restaurant)
  • Prepositions of time and place
  • Comparatives and superlatives
  • Phrasal verbs about school and daily activities (get up/get off)
  • Descriptive language (describing people, places and things)
  • Demonstrative Pronouns: Recognizing the connection between 'this, here' as opposed to 'that, there'.
  • Countable and uncountable nouns
  • Adverbs of frequency
You can expect your child to:
  1. Describe the appearance of a person or animal using simple language.
  2. Give a short description of a family member or friend.
  3. Talk about their hobbies and interests
  4. Order food in a café or restaurant
  5. Describe a picture showing a familiar scene or activity using simple language, if prompted by questions.
  6. Ask people how often they do common everyday activities.
  7. Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to the areas of experience most immediately relevant to him/her (e.g., personal and family information, shopping, places of interest, school etc.).
  8. Understand short, simple texts and personal letters can find information from simple daily texts (menus, schedules etc.) understand and use basic phrases and expressions understand simple written English
  9. Can describe everyday activities in town (e.g., buying food at the supermarket, borrowing a book from the library) using simple language.
  10. Can take part in ‘small talk’ and express simple opinions.
  11. Can ask for what they want and exchange basic information
  12. You can produce simple statements and questions with the simple present, past and future.
  13. Can describe weather conditions in their country using simple language.
  14. Can describe basic symptoms to a doctor, using gestures to support the meaning
