SECONDARY TWO- PHYSICS (Term 4)

  • Type

    Ongoing class

  • Duration

    10 classes (90 mins / class)

  • Size

    8 students / class

This course is for Secondary TWO students and will help them to love physics and to understand the Physics concepts along with their application in the real-world scenario. Students will be equipped in learning the concepts and understanding them thoroughly.
THIS COURSE WILL COVER:
1. Model: Light
  1. ray model of light, ray diagrams
  2. properties of light: light and shadows (eclipses), smooth / rough / coloured surfaces
  3. reflection, refraction, total internal reflection
  4. effects and uses of plane / curved reflecting surfaces
  5. mixture / components of white light, dispersion, prisms, colour vision
  6. lenses, eyes
2. Interactions: Electromagnetic waves and sound
  1. transverse and longitudinal waves
  2. vibrating source, particles of medium interact, energy transfer
  3. loudness and wave amplitude; pitch and frequency
  4. sound (speech, music, ultrasound) vs noise
3. Models: Particulate nature of matter
  1. explain kinetic model => random constant motion of small discrete particles
  2. explain solid, liquid, gas by particles arrangement and movement
  3. explain physical properties (e.g. volume, shape, density, compressibility)
  4. explain state transitions, expansion, contraction, conservation of mass
4. Interactions: Heat energy and its transmission
  1. contraction and expansion: explain with heat transfer, effect on volume and density, explain daily applications
  2. conduction, convection and radiation; explain daily uses (e.g. vacuum flask, double-glazed windows, solar heaters)
  3. different rate of heat flow by different materials
  4. effect of nature of surface and temp gradient on radiation
  5. global warming and climate change
5. Systems: DC electricity
  1. current, potential difference and resistance: definition, formula and SI units
  2. circuit diagrams and components
  3. series and parallel arrangement of resistors and batteries
  4. chemical, heating and magnetic effects of electricity
  5. Power, calculations, SI unit, kWh costing of electricity use
  6. Practical use of electricity, hazards and precautions
